Have we got any good reason not to? It's a working system, and it would be easy to scale up in the future to include things like machinery control so that only experienced users are able to power them up. 
Is there much point in reinventing the wheel when we could be getting on with things like the Space API instead? If we build on what people have already come up with, then we spend less time doing what they've done, and more time innovating - never a bad thing.
