I haven't yet got as far as the details of mounting but, yeah attaching
to the frame sounds good, wire loops ought to work.

Yeah could do. Probably just need 3V to replace the batteries (possibly
with a relay if it pulls power when the EL wire is off) and wire a
control line in to replace the button.

Could have the sign controlled from the space status so folks should
notice it still being on when they leave and remember to close the space
(or maybe they wont notice and we'll just have the sign left on...).
