I am writing with details and an agenda of the next meeting of ScotlandIS
and a reminder about our Topic Survey. For those of you who are new to
ScotlandIS, I have pasted in the summary of our first meeting at the bottom

Our intention is to address the interests of the wide range of skills and
industries that our IT community  and the topics we have selected reflect a
general desire to grow and diversify business and make better use of IT to
increase efficiency.

*Summary of First ScotlandIS meeting, Tuesday, 29 September, 2015*

The ScotlandIS networking session at RGU last week was a great success. We
had registrations from 67 people from 49 organisations  and 42 attended. My
initial lunch order was for 15-20 people!

After introductory presentations there was  a very lively one hour
discussion on what could be done in Grampian to promote the IT industry and
engage with users of  digital technologies and services. Many people still
locked in conversation well after the 2 pm closing time. Here is a link to

The main actions we took away from the event were:

   - *Future event topics**:* We only discussed 4 of  the 14 ideas for
   future sessions so please *click here

to
   record your top 7 choices and let us know if you would like to participate
   or present, have any demos or case studies on the topic. or if you have any
   other suggestions. The objective is to attract not only the IT supply
   community but the organisations and people who use IT. Please feel free to
   forward this to colleagues or customers.
   - *Create an Oil and Gas Special Interest Group (SIG)* whose objective
   is to engage with the industry to establish how technology can enable
   greater efficiencies. We have already started on this and I will report
   back early next week.
   - *Companies not involved in Oil and Gas:* We can  leverage other
   resources in ScotlandIS and our connections with other agencies. I will be
   in touch with the companies I am aware of, but please contact me if you are
   in this situation and think we could be of help.
   - *Opportunities in other industries and geographies.* Whether your
   focus is oil and gas or other markets we need to look at how a local group
   could discuss, encourage and enable exporting skills and products into
   other area and to utilise best practice and solutions in Grampian. I also
   intend to bring in speakers and topics from elsewhere.
   - *Share expertise.* The IT business may be competitive but there are
   opportunities to offer suggestions and sources of help to growing
   companies, not just on technology but also business advice, for example
   finance and funding, legal, sales, marketing and business advice.
