My concern with this is hosting LDAP external to the space. Is it
possible to mirror the server and have a local and remote synchronised,
or is it not that big a deal? 
I guess we'd still have the network home drives on the Synology
and mount them at boot.

As for the wiki/etc, there's LDAP plugins for mediawiki and a whole host
of other things too - I've done ejabberd against it amongst other
things, so there's plenty of tests that can be done!
