Hi, Hibbie.

I already used VMware P2V to 'virtualise' my native Windows 7 install
and I've been using the image produced to run a Windows 7 VM under
VirtualBox (Linux host, Windows 7 guest).

The problem is that the Windows 10 upgrade on my Windows 7 VM reports
that my CPU isn't supported and refuses to do the upgrade. If I force
the upgrade, it runs through, but then borks at the last minute and
back-pedals to Windows 7...

I've Googled this topic to death and many other people have the same
problem with the "get Windows 10" 'app' running in a Windows 7 VM.

As a last resort, I'm now thinking of re-installing Windows 7 on bare
metal to upgrade it then use P2V to virtualise the upgraded Windows 10.

The really INFURIATING thing is that I can install Windows 10 in a VM
without any problem and it runs, but it needs to be 'activated'. I then
used the SAME VM, but switched to the Windows 7 virtual media and it
STILL complains that the CPU isn't supported! (i.e. I used the actual
VirtualBox VM that ran Windows 10 successfully, but with the Windows 7
media so there was NO chance the VirtualBox settings were the problem.

I hate M$, but want to be able to test things I do work under Windows.

Thanks for the Jungle Tip,

  Tony.
