Howdy!

Has anyone used funkwhale[1]?

Based on the about [2] It looks to be an open source version of grooveshark, with federation and social features thrown in...

I wonder if we could migrate our music collection to this, and federate with other friends who are running it to expand our collection. It gives us a better interface for making playlists and we can play & share each other's music when not in space.

There's an app ecosystem [3] that includes mopidy, the mpd alternative, and ios/android/desktop options as well as a web frontend.

It could be tied to an update to MPD to bring it into the modern era. The OS really needs updated, and that pi is ooooold. It probably needs replaced at this point. That might give us a chance to make something more stable than the curlftpfs[4] system that's currently in place! 
Mopidy has been mentioned before in this regard, I think it has more human friendly frontends for playing music too.
