Gentlefolk,

At the behest of IRL, by way of the Fedi, I am introducing myself here.
Some of you from Aberdeen Uni might be prior acquaintances; I taught
there from 2004-17, where I was an anthropologist, conservation social
scientist, and Himalayan specialist. The Buddhist ethics, Gender and
Religion, and ethnobotany courses were probably the best  known.

In a previous life, I worked extensively with Unix (BSD) and Macs. I
configured more UUCP links than I can remember, and am quite delighted
with the way the Fediverse is recreating some of what Usenet, Fido etc. was.

These days we have a small consulting firm <https:/situgyan.com>.

I have been learning to manage Nextcloud, Matrix, and Moodle with an
LDAP backend, and administering Debian. I believe firmly that NGOs and
charities should be supported to thrive with community-supported software.

I am trying to encourage my children to learn practical computing skills
- we've got Raspis around the house, an OpenHAB instance, and other
goodies, and I'm finally learning Lisp properly together with the sprogs.

Family obligations mean it's not likely I will actually be a physical
presence around the lab much, but we are nearby.

Be well,

—WBTD.
